Arts Resources at WVC Libraries

  • The following links will search the WVC catalog for books and other materials:

    Books on art history

    Art reference books

    To search for specific artists: enter their last name in the basic search box and choose "subject keyword" from the drop down box, then press enter.  Alternatively, do the same search but choose "title keyword" from the drop down.

    To search for specific subjects in art, go to the advanced search screen, enter a subject term (e.g. sculpture) in the first search box and change "keyword anywhere" to "subject." In the next search box, enter the term art, change "keyword anywhere" to subject, and click search.

     

    • No results? Keep the same terms, but change to "keyword anywhere."

 

  • Finding current information on art - news articles, reviews, journal and magazine articles

    - Go to the library's main search page and click on "Advanced Search."

    - Click on "general" (located under the search button), then check the boxes next to "Academic Search Premier" and "Proquest Research Library." 

    - Enter the term art in the first search box, and select "subject" from the dropdown box.

    - Enter another search term in the second box, and check either keyword (broader search) or subject (narrower) search from the dropdown.

    - Click "search" and review the results. Check the "full text" box to limit results to full text. You may filter the results several ways, or click "refine" search to add or change search terms.

 

CultureGrams - general information about world customs and cultures; includes summaries of the arts in each country.  Click on a country to open the article; under "Lifestyle" on the lefthand menu, choose "The Arts."

History Resource Center - U.S. & World (enter through either database; they are linked) - select "subject search" from the front page, enter the term art, choose which database to search.  Review the list of subjects.  See more detailed subjects by viewing the "topic tree," or click any linked subject to see available resources.

eLibrary - contains a variety of resources.  Click on "topic" at the top of the main page; select a category under "Arts."

 

  • Browse the online art magazines and journals available to you through the WVC databases

- Go to WVC's Journal Portal

- Under "Browse e-journals by subject," select "Art, Architecture & Applied Arts," and click "search."

- Click any heading to see a list of magazines and journals available to you in that area

- When viewing the record for a particular magazine or journal, click on the associated database name to see all of the issues available to you.

 

  • Finding art information in electronic books (full text)

- Go to the library's main search page and click on "Advanced Search."

- Click on "books" (located under the search button), then check the boxes next to "Ebrary" and "Netlibrary eBooks." 

- Enter the term art in the first search box, and select "subject" from the dropdown box.

- Enter another search term in the second box, and check either keyword (broader search) or subject (narrower) search from the dropdown.

- Click "search" and review the results.  You may filter the results several ways, or click "refine" search to add or change search terms.
