WVC ATHLETICS
More than 130 student-athletes comprise the heart of the Wenatchee Valley College athletic teams: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, and fastpitch softball and baseball. WVC has enjoyed many years in the top rankings of the dozens of teams who make up the the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC), our athletic conference. Comprised of 36 member community colleges from throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia, it is the largest single community college athletic association in the United States. Our coaches have been recognized locally and throughout the NWAACC as some of the best in their sports.
The Wenatchee Valley College outdoor sports complex includes the Paul Thomas Sr. Baseball Stadium, a fully lighted facility that seats more than 1,200, that is also home to the Wenatchee AppleSox, a semi-professional baseball team. The first phase of an improvement project to the WVC softball field was recently completed through the generous support of the Wenatchee North Rotary, Bernardo-Wills Architects, P.C., the Apple Valley Softball Association, and ASWVC student funds. The project added handicap access, improved the Lady Knights dugout and added a new grandstand. For the soccer programs, there is a regulation-size soccer field and two smaller practice fields, and new grandstands for our great soccer fans too.
All of these facilities are shared with local community groups such as AAU, Babe Ruth, Little League and Wenatchee Youth Soccer, many of whom may well play on future WVC Knights and Lady Knights teams.
The P.E./athletics building on the Wenatchee campus is home to Smith Gymnasium, the Paul Thomas Sr. racquetball courts (two), the well-equipped Paul Scea Fitness Center and a free weights room. These facilities are also available to community members who enroll in a WVC P.E. class, either for credit or through the continuing education department.
Physical education class offerings include sports nutrition, anatomical kinesiology, first aid and emergency response, and athletic training. Activity classes include step aerobics, fitness lab, tai chi, karate, weight training and racquetball. These classes may be taken for credit each quarter, as well as other seasonal classes such as tennis and golf in the spring.
