ESL 002

English through Keyboarding
Self-paced learning of keyboarding on a computer. English vocabulary,punctuation and grammar will be stressed to improve basic reading andwriting skills.
 
Prerequisite: concurrent enrollment in other ESL class.

Basic Skills through Computer
Raises reading and writing skills through introduction to basic computer usage. Focuses on computer terminology, computer functions and elementary program terminology in building basic English literacy levels.

Conv/Writ I
Conversation/Writing IA course designed for ESL students to improve English speaking and writing skills. Focus is on sharing ideas in writing and in conversation. This course emphasizes use of standard English grammar. Prerequisites: ESL 012, able to speak English sentences.

 
ESL 017
2.5 credits
English for Work
English for WorkPrepares non-English speakers for obtaining jobs. Includes identifying skills, preparing resources, completing a job application, reading job announcements and attending an interview.
 
Prerequisite: ESL 010.
 
ESL 020
1 credit
ESL Level I
Designed for the non-English speaking student. Focus in on speaking skills important in every day life, including the English alphabet, pronouncing and spelling simple words, stating basic needs, and followingdirections. Prerequisites: CASAS placement test.

 
ESL 021
1.3 credit
ESL Level 2
Designed for non-English speaking students. Focus is on improving verbal skills, understanding instructions, building English vocabulary and beginning written sentence structure. Prerequisites: ESL 020/ESL 1 or appropriate assessment score.

 
ESL 022
1.5 credits
ESL Level III
Use practical vocabulary building words and phrases in speaking, reading and writing. Emphasis is on reading simple paragraphs, understanding main ideas and writing sentences. Prerequisites: ESL 021/ESL 2 or appropriate assessment score.

 
ESL 023
1.5 credits
ESL Level IV
Designed to improve basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Emphasis is on writing complete sentences and combining them into paragraphs. Vocabulary development and ease in speaking are emphasized. Prerequisites: ESL 022/ESL 3 or appropriate assessment score.

 
ESL 024
0.5 credit
ESL Level V
Continuation of ESL 23's emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Writing concentrates on correct sentences and combination into paragraphs. Emphasis on vocabulary development and more fluid speaking. Prerequisites: ESL 023/ESL 4 or appropriate assessment score.

 
ESL 025

ESL Level I
