Spanish Courses
SPAN 091* 2 credits Learning to Speak Spanish I Introduction to pronunciation, useful expressions and basic grammatical constructions. It is recommended that students who have never studied a foreign language take this course before or concurrently with Spanish 096 or SPAN& 121.
SPAN 092* 2 credits Learning to Speak Spanish II Continued work in pronunciation, useful expressions and some basic grammatical constructions. May be taken concurrently with SPAN 096 or higher courses. Prerequisites: SPAN 091, 096, SPAN& 121 or instructor’s signature.
SPAN 093* 2 credits Learning to Speak Spanish III Continued work in pronunciation, useful expressions and some basic grammatical constructions. May be taken concurrently with SPAN 096 or higher courses. Prerequisites: SPAN 092. 096, SPAN& 121 or instructor’s signature.
SPAN 095* 3 credits Customer Services Conversational Spanish for Businesses This class emphasizes entry level customer service Spanish speaking with a focus on local business applications. Activities will emphasize practical applications from a front counter perspective. Learners practice welcoming and helping customers in Spanish. Politeness and respect in the cultures studied are demonstrated and practiced. Basic grammar is included.
SPAN 096* 3 credits Spanish for Beginners Introduction to Spanish for the person who has had little or no foreign language study and would like a foundation before going into SPAN& 121. Course will emphasize pronunciation, basic vocabulary and grammatical differences between English and Spanish.
SPAN& 121 5 credits Spanish I Elementary grammar, writing and comprehension of the Spanish language. Instruction partly in Spanish. Background in English grammatical terminology is recommended.
SPAN& 122 5 credits Spanish II Continuation of Spanish I. Elementary grammar, writing and comprehension of the Spanish language. Instruction increasingly in Spanish. Background in English grammatical terminology is recommended. Prerequisite: SPAN& 121.
SPAN& 123 5 credits Spanish III Continuation of Spanish II. Elementary grammar, oral and written composition. Instruction mostly in Spanish. Background in English grammatical terminology is recommended. Prerequisite: SPAN& 122 or equivalent.
SPAN& 221 5 credits Spanish IV Study of grammar, writing, comprehension, and Hispanic culture and literature. Instruction in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN& 123 or equivalent.
SPAN& 222 5 credits Spanish V Continuation of Spanish IV. Study of grammar, writing, comprehension, and Hispanic culture and literature. Instruction in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN& 221 or equivalent.
SPAN& 223 5 credits Spanish VI Continuation of Spanish V. Study of grammar, writing, comprehension, and Hispanic culture and literature. Instruction in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN& 222 or equivalent.
