B.S. in education form University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His majors were history, physical education M.S. is in entomology from the University of Idaho. His master's thesis was on the biological control of spotted and diffuse knapweed. Ph.D. in biology from Montana State University. His dissertation was on the plant and grasshopper communities associated with rangeland and winter wheat.
