Support Services : Online Search Skills

Did you know?

  • the difference between a search engine and a subject directory?
  • how to prepare a citation for a Web page?
  • the difference between a Web page and a page on the Web?
  • how to find a table of contents for a Web site?
  • how to find a word, name or phrase in a Web document without having to scroll and scan the text?
  • how to tell where a hypertext link will take you before you click on it?

Your WashingtonOnline (WAOL) classes may require you to locate Internet Web sites and use search engines for research. Whether you are new to the Internet or have been navigating for some time, learning how to focus your Internet searches and make use of your WAOL library resources will increase the likelihood of finding what you need as well as reduce the amount of time you take to find it.

Wenatchee Valley College library instructor Kim Lohse is offering free sessions designed to introduce you to some methods of maximizing your success online. Instruction will take place at the John A. Brown Library on the WVC campus. Following a group presentation, individuals will have the opportunity to search the Internet and receive guided assistance.

To register for an Internet training session call Kim Lohse at 662-1651, ext. 2810, or send her an e-mail at klohse@wvc.edu that includes your name, course name and number, and level of Internet proficiency (beginner, intermediate). Choose from the sessions below and indicate your first choice and an alternate choice. Kim will register your name and send you a confirmation by return e-mail. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
