The Introduction to Astronomy telecourse explores the universe
through a close look at modern astronomy. Topics will include the nature
of light, telescopes, the night sky, the solar system, galaxies, star
formation, pulsars and black holes. An observing session will be included,
weather permitting.
Course outcomes/goals and objectives
- Develop critical science thinking skills; explore and discover.
- Experience researching and presenting a science project.
- Specifically, develop an understanding of the language and themes
of astronomy as they relate to the birth and evolution of the solar
system and the universe.
- Develop insights into prevalent and pertinent issues in astronomy
today.

4 meetings on the Wenatchee campus: Spring 2003 - meetings on Tuesdays
4/8, 4/22, 5/6, 5/20, 6/3
22 video lessons; 8 weekly assigned homeworks, summaries, and open-book
quizzes; one independent observing project; one optional evening of
night-sky observing with a telescope.
