WVC Poetry Slam set for May 28, 2009
Community members are invited to participate in the 26th Poetry Slam at Wenatchee Valley College on Thursday, May 28. Starting at 7 p.m., the event will be held in the Robert Graves Gallery located in Sexton Hall on the Wenatchee campus.
Poetry performed must be composed by the performing artist. Those who want to compete are encouraged to sign up at the door. One dollar will be collected from all audience members and poets, with the winner receiving two-thirds of the pot and the runner-up one-third.
In the first round of the slam, each poet will be allowed three minutes to either read or recite from memory. Histrionics are both permitted and encouraged, although no props or music are allowed.
If time permits, follow-up eliminations will be held between the three poets with the highest scores. In the elimination round, each poet will be allowed five minutes to perform his or her work.
Judges will give equal weight to content and performance/delivery.
