Wenatchee Valley College athletes from this year and as far back as the 1950s were among those honored by the WVC Booster Club this spring.
The awards were presented at A Knight to Remember IV induction ceremony on June 6.
Athletic Most Valuable Player awards for 2008-2009 were presented to Selina Longoria of Quincy, women's soccer; John Stump of Yakima, men's soccer; Talia Venera of Ellensburg, women's volleyball; Lauren Daling of Waterville, women's basketball; Greg Giese of Coulee City, men's basketball; Bri Compton of Flathead, Mont., fast-pitch softball; and Zack Swart of Yakima, baseball.
Apple Valley Honda Academic Scholarships were presented to women's basketball player Maria Rustemeyer of Sprague and men's soccer player John Stump of Yakima.
WVC Hall of Fame inductees included former football coach Tom Parry of Moxee; former tennis and skiing coach Frank Cumbo of Wenatchee; ski team members from the 1950s, including Ken Paton, Oddvar Ronnestad, Knut-Einar Istad, Tortstein Gjestrud, Doug Nicholson, Bud Hatley and Cal Vaughn; the 1954 men's tennis team of Vernon Ball, Roger Barnhart, Jerry Chapton, George Stillman and Gary Clifford; basketball players Jill Greenfield of Richland and Byron Williams of Oakland, Calif; and community supporter Jeff Mertes of Wenatchee.
Special recognition was given posthumously to Mike Dempsey, former president of the WVC Booster Club and 2008 WVC Alumnus of the Year. Dempsey died last year.
