click Search Records tab
(next to the home tab)
choose ADVANCED SEARCH
Ancestral File
the Ancestral File was
the first online gedcom database and has been discontinued but the information
is still there.
Unlike later GEDCOMS which may have notes and sources it has none but it can be
a great "clue finder."
Do your search and an individual record will appear
On the right of the screen click on the FAMILY VIEW
Choose DOWNLOAD GEDCOM
bring it in as you would any other gedcoms file.
IGI – International
Genealogical Index
1. To search you MUST
choose Region – North America if you are in Canada or the U.S. - then choose
country and state if you know them (they can be left blank but you have to
choose a region)
2. In the original listing that comes up there are boxes to the left of the name – check any box that you want to download – you may only do 50 at a time – when you are done
3. find the “Prepare selected
records for download” link at the bottom of the page. It will send them to a
gedcoms file on your desktop!
REMEMBER: The IGI has both index entries to source records AND entries from
completed pedigrees submitted to church records. You can tell which kind of
record it is if you look at the entry and choose the FILM NUMBER link at the
bottom of the page.
DOWNLOADING GEDCOMS FROM WORLDCONNECT
Go to WORLDCONNECT's Advanced Search http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
1. Do your search - if you see the person that you want in the list click the link to that person which opens up a groupsheet for them
At the top of the screen you will see the submitter's name, name of gedcom and email
Beneath that is a set of links showing INDEX - DESCENDANCY - PEDIGREE etc.
2. IF the submitter has
allowed you to download the gedcom download gedcom will be among these - if they
have not this means you can't download their gedcom
3. Follow the DOWNLOAD GEDCOM Link
4. Use the pull down that
says PRODUCE A GEDCOM FILE FROM ______
this lets you choose only the ancestors or descendants of the person of interest
5. click the download button.

(which you do not need membership to access)
