Virginia
Early Virginia Religious Petitions
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/petitions/
Until the American Revolution the Church of England was the state religion
in Virginia. All "nonconformists" (Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians etc.)
frequently had complaints and issues and believed they were being unfairly
treated. They signed petitions. NOTE: Searching by name seems not to work
very well. For best results: browse by PLACE - when you get the entry for
the petition at the bottom of the page it says Digital ID and there is a web
address. paste that in your address bar and you are sent to the original
document.
