PRINTING CENSUS
IMAGES IN HERITAGE QUEST
From the menu just above the census image you wish to print choose:
DOWNLOAD (not print) to bring the image
into an Adobe PDF file.
Choose VIEW - the census will appear in a new window
as a PDF file.
If you don't see the name for which you are looking, check to see if there
is a tab for "subpage two" just above the image and click on
it. Your name is probably on that page.
Click the icon on the Adobe toolbar that looks like a CAMERA.
This will
give you a "lasso". Start in the upper left corner and pull
the lasso over the section of the census you want to print or the entire
census page if you want everything to print.
[if you want
to blow up a portion of the census you may simply capture the part you
want blown up and printed]
IF YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL Adobe Acrobat will tell you "the selected
area has been copied to the clipboard".
Click okay.
Click the print icon on the Adobe toolbar to get the print dialogue box.
MAKE CERTAIN that the pulldown box for Page Scaling says FIT TO
PAPER.
MAKE CERTAIN that your paper is in landscape or portrait
mode, depending on the census year:
If you are
not sure, click the box that says properties and you will see the buttons
to choose Portrait or Landscape.
Click okay when you have it right and it will return you back to the print
menu.
Click OKAY to print.
Make sure that you choose the PRINT ICON on the ADOBE toolbar
- do NOT use the pull down menu to print. It is important that you use
the print command from the Adobe PDF program.
