Wenatchee Valley College will offer a new Outdoor Leadership class during fall quarter 2016. Outdoor Leadership and Challenge Course Facilitation (PEHR 196) is designed for students interested in acquiring and developing leadership and facilitation skills.

Outdoor Leadership is a four-credit course that meets on Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m., as well as some Saturdays and Sundays (Oct. 22-23 and Oct. 29-30). It is taught by WVC Outdoor Recreation Management faculty Ariahna Jones.

Students will explore pedagogy, group dynamics, facilitation, risk management and the art of sequencing group initiatives. They will also be introduced to the operation of a variety of low- and high-challenge course initiatives.

The course will empower students to find their individual leadership style while providing them with the theoretical background and technical skills needed to lead adventure programming initiatives such as the Challenge Course. This skill set will also give students the confidence and competence to identify and modify programming to address environmental and human risk factors in the outdoors.
