WVC and YWCA present Stand Against Racism on April 28

Wenatchee Valley College and the YWCA present a Stand Against Racism event on Thursday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. around the fountain on the Wenatchee campus. This event is free and open to the public.

The event includes a speaker series, music, activities and a free barbecue.

Dr. Chio Flores, WVC Vice President of Student Services, and Jenny Pratt, YWCA Executive Director, will give the welcome at 9 a.m.

Speakers include Joara Minharo, WVC Political Science faculty, presenting Universal Suffrage: From Subjects to Citizens; Jaime Ramirez, WVC Chicano/a Studies faculty, presenting Demcarcation Line: La Frontera; Richard Brinkman, WVC Sociology faculty, presenting The Social Construction of Race; Frank Kuntz, City of Wenatchee Mayor; and Dr. Roger Schaffer of Central Washington University presenting Disproportionate Minority Incarceration in the Era of Correctional Crisis. Students will also share their stories and experiences.

The event will close with remarks from Erin Tofte, WVC Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Alyssa Martinez of the YWCA.

The film, He Named Me Malala, will be shown in Van Tassell Center at 1:30 p.m.
