WVC Continuing Education offers summer camps for kids

Wenatchee Valley College Continuing Education will offer a series of summer camps for children entering grades 5-8. The camps will run during June and July. They will be held at Wenatchee Valley College but may include field trips off campus.

Digging in the Dirt: Archaeology Exploration Camp I is available for kids entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is June 14-16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $99. Children will experience the world of archaeology and look for clues to build a picture of people from the past through class activities and excavation experience.

Ancient Tools, Prehistoric People: Archaeology Exploration Camp II is for kids entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is June 20-22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $99. Kids will work with materials our ancestors would have used—bone, stone, shell and wood—to make connections between the natural and cultural world. This camp is field-based and includes outdoor activities. Students do not have to attend the first camp to sign up for the second.

STEM Occupation Exploration for Girls is available for girls entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $99. Students will explore the world of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). They will meet with men and women in STEM fields and participate in hands-on activities and field trips.

The Whole Is Greater than the Parts: Art Camp is for kids entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is June 21-23 from 1 to 3 p.m. and costs $55. Campers will learn basic color theory, then paint a wood panel that will fit into a mural image to be displayed at Pybus Public Market.

Healthcare Career Exploration Camp is for kids entering grades 6 through 8. The camp is June 21-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $99. Students will experience healthcare careers through activities, games and simulations put on by faculty, staff and community members. They will participate in a skills lab, shadow nursing students through a medical emergency and more.

Vertical Gardening is for kids entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is June 28-July 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $99. They will learn to engineer a vertical garden; how egg shells, chicken poop, banana peels and coffee grounds make great soil starters; the importance of protecting bees; why saving water matters; and how to grow a lot of food in a very small space.

Don’t Rock the Boat! is for kids entering grades 5 through 7. The camp is July 11-14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it is free. Kids will learn how to build a small boat and investigate the mysteries of buoyancy. The camp includes field trips and a boat race in the WVC fountain. This camp is offered free to students through a Chelan Douglas Retired Teachers Association sponsorship.
