The Wenatchee Valley College women’s basketball team has been named Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) East Region Co-Champions after their defeat of the Yakima Yaks on Feb. 27.

The Knights will begin the first round of the NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament on Saturday, March 5, at 3 p.m. in Smith Gym on the Wenatchee campus. They play their first game against South Puget Sound Community College.

Admission is $10 for adults; $7 for students, seniors (60+), military personnel and children ages 7-12; and free for both WVC students with ID and children six and under.

Coach Rachel Bromiley-Goetz led the team to an overall season record of 24-5 and an East Region record of 12-2.

Players from both the women’s and men’s basketball teams have been named to NWAC All-Region teams and were recognized for academic excellence. The Eastern Region First Team will include Drew Carlos and Lauren Johnson of the women’s team. Carlos has also been named Defensive Player of the Year. Shayla Johnson is on the All-Defensive Team.

Bryan Michaels of the men’s basketball team has been named to the Eastern Region First Team.

Drew Carlos, Lauren Johnson, Adriane Horn, Taylor Redman, Mikayla Sites, Nick Lopes and Bryan Michaels are on the NWAC Academic Excellence list for winter quarter 2016. To be on the list, players must be sophomores in eligibility, have earned a minimum of 36 credits and a 3.25 cumulative GPA, and be recommended by their college.
