Nursing Program Evaluation and Selection
To be eligible to apply, applicants must have completed all prerequisite courses and met all eligibility requirements (PDF). Students will be selected for the program based on a variety of factors.
Applicants are required to take and pass all sections of the TEAS Exam in the same test session. Qualifying scores are valid for two years. More information the TEAS, including minium qualifying scores and sign up information, can be found here.
TEAS application points are calculated by dividing the Adjusted Individual Total Score by 10.
For example, a score of 78.7 would be 7.87 points for this section.
When you submit your application, you must submit a copy of your TEAS score report. The score report must show your name and the scores from all sections (Total Score, Reading Score, Math Score, Science Score, and English and Language Usage Score). To retrieve your report, log into your ATI student account and go to the MY RESULTS tab. Your ATI TEAS Score will be found under the Proctored Assessments header.
To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum grade of C (2.0) for all prerequisite courses (PDF) and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Points are awarded based on a student's cumulative GPA, which includes all higher education coursework, and a weighted GPA calculated using the following four courses, or their equivalents:
- BIOL& 241
- BIOL& 242
- MATH& 146
- PSYC& 100
If necessary, the grades for the above courses will be converted to numerical grades (e.g., a B+ will be converted to a 3.3). These numerical grades and the cumulative GPA will be added together and then divided by two for a maximum score of 10 points. See below for an example of the calculation.

The calculation for these grades would look like:
3.4 + 4.0 + 3.8 + 3.3 + 3.0 = 17.5
17.5 ÷ 2 = 8.75 points for this section
To be eligible to apply, applicants must have a Certificate of Completion as a nursing assistant (NA-C) in the state of Washington or Director approval of a Certificate of Completion from another state. For any questions about this, contact the Director of Nursing Programs. Additional (optional) points for work experience will also be awarded.
The breakdown of points for a students NA-C certificate /license and healthcare work experience is as follows:
Nursing Assistant training status at the time of the application due date:
- WA NA-C issued License (7 points) OR
- Course completed, but test/license pending (4 points) OR
- Currently enrolled in a training that will complete before the start of nursing program (2 points)
And optionally:
- Certified Nursing Assistant work experience, 100 hours or more (3 points) OR
- To recieve these points you must work as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Other related healthcare experience, 100 hours or more (2 points)
The student must have worked 100 hours or more within the last three years.
To receive points for healthcare work experience, documentation is required. Complete and submit the Healthcare Experience Verification form with the program application.
Additional points will be provided for international experience and awarded for the following two options:
5 points will be awarded for WVC students studying under an F1 or M1 student visa. WVC students studying under a J1 student visa may be considered for these points on a case-by-case basis. Documentation must be included with application and must be a letter from the WVC Registrar verifying the applicant’s status as a current international student and type of visa.
OR
5 points for individuals with experience living abroad for extended periods. This could be for study or work abroad experience that is of significant length of time (more than 1 year experience). 2 points for international study/work abroad experience between 6 and 12 months. Documentation for international experience must be a letter from a supervisor, an international organization, or study abroad coordinator on letter head with description of length of time overseas, as well as work completed abroad.
Applicants may submit additional information for consideration in the event of a tie, which is rare. Examples of consideration could be multi-lingual proficiency, consideration of local residency in absence of WVC student experience, or any other circumstance that you would like the evaluators to know.
