To write a courthouse: Vital Records Online is designed to list vital records sites but included is a good up-to-date address of all the courthouses with phone numbers

Choose state and county. Material is donated by volunteers and some

GEOGRAPHIC HELP

David Rumsey Map Collection
has beautiful historical maps. You probably do not want to use them
on a dial-up connection (too long to load) and the site is a bit difficult
to navigate but worth the effort.

GNIS Geographic Names Database - put in those creeks and
it will tell you where they were!

System: Geo Communicator - look up exact township and range
mapping information when you have a deed or patent
