American Indian Indigenous Studies

American Indian Indigenous Studies (AIIS) courses provide Native and non-Native students the opportunity to learn the rich history and cultural heritage of the Indigenous peoples of North America. As an interdisciplinary program, it draws from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, and captures many of WVC Abilities Outcomes, including cultural diversity.

Collaborations

The American Indian Indigenous Studies (AIIS) program at Wenatchee Valley College (WVC) is the bridge to transporting regional Indigenous history and knowledge systems to WVC. AIIS courses will transfer regional Indigenous knowledge across disciplines through teaching, outreach, partnership, and scholarship. By ways of mutual trust and government-to-government relationship with the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CCT), WVC advances the belief through action by incorporating cross-cultural knowledge and transferability as regional partners. The aim is to renew relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities through higher education cross-cultural training, leadership development, and political and socio-cultural understanding.
