Accommodation for Students with Learning Learning Disabilities

1400.090 ACCOMMODATION FOR STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES PROCEDURE

A. FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO SUSPECT THEY MAY HAVE A LEARNING DISABILITY THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE WILL BE:

  1.  Meet with the disability support services (DSS) special populations coordinator on the Wenatchee campus or meet with the student support specialist on the Wenatchee Valley at Omak campus for intake.
  2. Complete the 13Q assessment and/or the PLNI (learning disability (LD) screening tools) with appropriate person on each campus.
  3. Based on the results, student may be referred for diagnostic assessment of the LD as follows:
    1. With personal funding: to a licensed neuro-psychologist or psychologist, clinical or educational psychologist, learning disability specialist or other professional.  Experience in the evaluation of adults with LD is essential.
    2. Without personal funding (with proof or signed status): to a trained learning disability specialist with WVC for diagnostic testing.
    3. If connected with an outside agency such as Labor & Industries (L&I) or Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR): that agency may pay for diagnostic testing, in which case the testing will be done by an appropriate professional listed above.
  4. When the diagnostic documentation is received and reviewed by the appropriate personnel, the accommodations will be provided as appropriate. When the documentation indicates no LD, then the student will be referred to the tutor center, counselor, instructor or other community resources.

B. FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN ASSESSED BUT HAVE DOCUMENTATION THAT IS OLDER THAN FIVE YEARS, THE PROCEDURE WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Meet with the DSS special populations coordinator on the Wenatchee campus or with the student support specialist on the Wenatchee Valley College at Omak campus for intake.
  2. Student will be referred for a new diagnostic assessment of the LD.
    1. With personal funding: to a licensed neuro-psychologist or psychologist, clinical or educational psychologist, learning disability specialist or other professional.  Experience in the evaluation of adults with LD is essential.
    2. Without personal funding (with proof or signed status): to a trained LD specialist with WVC for diagnostic testing.
    3. If connected with an outside agency such as L & I or DVR: that agency may pay for diagnostic testing, in which case the testing will be done by an appropriate professional listed above.
  3. When the new diagnostic documentation is received and reviewed by the appropriate personnel, the accommodations will be provided as appropriate.
