WVC students and members of student government expressed a need for an expanded area where they could freely participate in recreational activities, create a space to support student events and provide a gathering space for clubs and organizations.
The main floor is home to a double court gymnasium, a multi-use studio for Yoga, dance and other group activities, information desk, restrooms and day use lockers. The second floor mezzanine contains state of the art cardiovascular equipment, free weights, selectorized weight machines, TRX and other free movement training. The Rec Center is equipped for a variety of activities including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, dodge ball, indoor walking, intramural activities, and space for student-sanctioned dances, and other special events. Contact SRC staff at 682-6943 for more information.

Yes.

The State of Washington does not pay for non-classroom spaces on campus. Regardless of the need and desire of students, taxpayer dollars cannot be used to fund recreational spaces. Therefore, a student-initiated and student-funded project is the only way a recreation center could be built.

The student recreation center is a 20,000 square foot building and a $6.2 million dollar project. The SRC student fees will be used to repay the loan service debt, maintenance and operations cost, and any other associated fees and cost. The loan is expected to be paid off in 20 years.
