Greg Franz will serve as interim athletic director for Wenatchee Valley College while a national search is held for a new athletic director. The previous director, Kyle Vierck, is on administrative leave through December.

Franz officially retired as the athletic director in 2018. He began his career at WVC in 1988 as men’s basketball head coach. He retired as coach in 2007 and was inducted into the WVC Hall of Fame the same year. He was full-time faculty from 2008 to 2011, when he accepted the position of athletic director.

The director position will be posted this month. The search for a new director could take months, college administration said.

Vierck was hired as director in 2018 and served as interim men’s soccer head coach from 2019-2021 and interim women’s soccer head coach for the 2019-20 season.

“I greatly appreciate Greg’s willingness to return and lead the athletic department,” said Dr. Chio Flores, vice president of student services. “He is strongly committed to WVC athletics and eager to support student athletes, coaches and staff through this transition.”
