WVC welcomes new associate vice president Pedro Navarrete

Pedro NavarretePedro Navarrete was named as the Wenatchee Valley College Associate Vice President of Enrollment

Management and Community Partnerships. Navarrete began his new position on Oct. 3.

As the associate vice president, Navarrete will lead and manage outreach, recruitment, engagement, retention, and international programs. He will also develop strategic private, public, and regional partnerships to support enrollment and expand the college’s offerings.

“I am looking forward to serving the community, connecting, and engaging,” Navarrete said. “We have a lot of students who are underrepresented who qualify for need-based grants.”

As a first-generation college graduate, Navarrete understands the support that students need in higher education. For him, that support came from a teacher who encouraged him to continue his education. “I want to provide that same kind of experience for students,” he said.

"Mr. Navarrete is a great addition to our Wenatchee Valley College family,” said WVC President Dr. Faimous Harrison. “He comes to us with diverse experiences representing rural community colleges and Hispanic-serving institutions. Moreover, his awareness and understanding of the importance of building authentic relationships with diverse stakeholders is essential and aligns with our vision and goal to become the higher education institution of choice for our region and beyond. Mr. Navarrete comes highly recommended by a former colleague and friend whom I have known for over a decade, and one who acknowledges his departure will be a loss for Yakima Valley College. Mr. Navarrete will work with faculty, staff, and administrators as our district's senior Strategic Enrollment Management and Community Partnership administrator."

Navarrete has worked in various leadership roles in higher education. He served simultaneously as the assistant dean of Yakima Valley College’s Grandview Campus and interim dean for College and Career Readiness at Yakima Valley College. Before that, he was a director and program coordinator for the YVC Bachelor of Applied Science programs, and he has served as an academic adviser at Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute, Ind.

He holds a Master of Science from Indiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Central Washington University.
