Message from the president: Student vaccine requirement updates

Sent 09/17/21

WVC students,

New guidance from the governor and local healthcare authorities have changed vaccine requirements for students. In light of recent changes and developments, WVC has extended the deadline to be fully vaccinated or receive an exemption to Nov. 1. Please visit wvc.edu/PublicHealth for information and updates.

In addition to the extended deadline, the following changes have been made:

  • Those who do not meet the vaccination/exemption deadline may be disenrolled from in-person classes and/or have a hold placed on their registration for winter quarter.
  • Philosophical or personal exemptions are no longer permitted, per the governor’s most recent proclamation.
  • Additional exemption forms are now required for medical and religious exemption requests and are available on WVC’s Public Health page.
  • Students who are taking online classes are not required to be vaccinated. However, per the governor’s proclamation, any student visiting campus for services other than curbside pickup or drop off must be vaccinated or have received an approved exemption, regardless of whether they are taking online classes.

In order to be fully vaccinated by the Nov. 1 deadline, students must receive their first dose of Moderna no later than Sept. 20, Pfizer no later than Sept. 27 or Johnson & Johnson no later than Oct. 18. See the chart below.

Your patience has been incredibly helpful as we all await new guidance from local and state government. We will try to remain in ongoing communication with you about WVC requirements and what they mean for you and your education.

If you have questions or concerns related to the student vaccination requirement or COVID-19 safety and prevention at WVC, please do not hesitate to reach out. Please contact the Office of the Vice President for Student Services at studentservices@wvc.edu.

I look forward to seeing many of you on campus soon.

Sincerely,

Jim Richardson, PhD
WVC President
