At the Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees meeting on Nov. 19, the trustees
voted to approve President Faimous Harrison's contract for an additional three years.
His new contract will begin January 1, 2026.
The trustees approved a three-year contract through December 2028, with his current salary of $275,834, which is near the 2025 average salary ($279,665) for presidents in the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) system.
“We are proud to support President Harrison’s leadership at WVC. We are confident in his commitment to accountability and transparency demonstrated by his and our faculty and staff’s unwavering commitment to the success of our students,” the trustees wrote in a message to the college community.
“I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and community members for their continued support of our college,” Harrison said. “Their commitment to WVC's mission, vision, and values, and our focus on uplifting and supporting one another, strengthens the foundation on which we continue to build our shared future.”
Dr. Faimous Harrison was hired in 2022 as the 13th president of WVC. During his first three years as president, he initiated a revision of WVC’s strategic plan, mission, and vision statements to better reflect the college’s role in the region and to support the needs of students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. Harrison also helped to establish the inaugural WVC Leadership Development Academy Cohort, an effort to develop leaders from within the college to support succession planning and strengthen leadership development. Nearly 25 faculty and staff from the Wenatchee and Omak campuses and from a variety of divisions and departments took part in the first session in mid-October. At the state level, he has served as vice chair and then as chair for the Washington State Community and Technical Colleges Equity Committee. Dr. Harrison and the trustees have advocated on behalf of WVC and rural community colleges with state representatives in Olympia and Washington, D.C., and they have attended the Association of Community College Trustees Leadership Congress and Association of College Trustees conferences to meet with peers, receive leadership education, and advocate for students.
As president, Dr. Harrison's priorities moving forward include advancing WVC’s governance structures, ensuring the financial health of the college, and improving communication, active listening, and engagement with faculty, staff, students, and community members. “Our faculty and staff have an abundance of expertise and knowledge, and we will be more intentional in amplifying voices and ideas that advance our college, while also learning from each other and breaking down silos and barriers to success,” Harrison said.
He is also committed to engaging with faculty, staff, and students to continue creating a healthy leadership culture and improving transparency in decision-making.
The WVC Board of Trustees includes Wilma Cartagena (chair), Phylicia Hancock Lewis (vice chair), Paula Arno Martinez, Tamra Jackson, and Steve Zimmerman.
