The Wenatchee Valley College Music Department will host students from local elementary schools for a music workshop at the Music and Art Center on the Wenatchee campus on Saturday, Feb. 27. The workshop begins at 11 a.m., with a concert at 12:30 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall.

The WVC Chamber Singers will be joined by student musicians from Lincoln, Newberry and Columbia elementary schools.

The student musicians will rotate through rehearsals and vocal jazz, traditional choral music and recording/technology workshops that culminate in the concert.

The concert will feature the entire group performing “Haru ga Kita” and “We Are Gonna Be Friends,” in addition to small group performances. The concert is free and open to the public.

The event is part of a Woods House Grant that the music department received in the fall of 2015.

Grant funding is being used to help the community explore the college’s music facilities, learn more about the space and program, explore musicality and musicianship in a professional environment, and to document and foster music performance with local musicians. The WVC Music and Art Center includes not only the 150-seat recital hall, but also Sorom Studios, from which the music department released a CD of student compositions last year.
