El Corazón: Center for Excelencia in Teaching and Learning

Wenatchee Valley College's Center for Teaching and Learning, El Corazón (The Heart), is a college-wide effort advancing continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and student support at WVC.

Centering our institutional commitment to servingness*, El Corazón provides ongoing training and support for faculty and staff, helping them to deepen their cultural humility and better serve Latine learners through culturally responsive teaching, advising, and institutional practices.

*Servingness is a multidimensional and conceptual way of understanding what it means to move from simply enrolling Latine students to actually serving them (Garcia, Nuñez, and Sansone, 2019).

About El Corazón

All efforts carried out within or through El Corazón are grounded in the 'Cor Commitments. These commitments embody shared principles for our collective work focused on continuous professional improvement, identifying and dismantling barriers, supporting students, and supporting each other.

Cor' Commitments

The work of El Corazón is rooted in a commitment to eliminating educational disparities, fostering open and constructive communication, purposeful use of evidence-based practices, and engaging in continuous reflection and improvement.

Four key priorities are used when developing and evaluating programs and support offered through El Corazón. These priorities are revisited annually.
