Professor Holly Thorpe of the WVC English department will moderate the discussion, with a “bring your own book” signing to follow the author talk. Free event parking will be available in the Mish ee twie and Music and Art Center parking lots.
Klune is the number one New York Times and USA Today best-selling, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of “The House in the Cerulean Sea,” “Under the Whispering Door,” “In the Lives of Puppets,” the Green Creek Series for adults, and the Extraordinaries Series for teens. His latest novel, “We Burned So Bright,” will be released in April 2026.
“This author event is an expansion of One College, One Book, a longstanding common read program for WVC employees,” said Jeannie Henkle, director of Libraries and Learning Support Services. “We're very fortunate to have TJ Klune joining us here at WVC [and] thrilled by this unique opportunity to welcome our local neighbors to join us!"
The goal of One College, One Book is to highlight marginalized voices through topics, characters, and/or authors featured in the selected books. As Klune’s website states, “Being queer himself, Klune believes it's important—now more than ever—to have accurate, positive queer representation in stories.”
The chosen title for Spring 2025 is TJ Klune’s “The House in the Cerulean Sea,” which follows a case worker investigating an orphanage and its headmaster as he tries to determine whether six magical children could bring about the end of the world. The novel is a New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post bestseller and winner of the 2021 Alex Award and the 2021 RUSA Reading List: Fantasy award.
WVC's President’s Office, Fable Books and Blooms, and A Book for All Seasons have provided support for this program.
