Spotlight on Athletics Leadership

Aaron Vaughn and Levi Vega stand side by side beneath the branches of a tree.Meet your new Knights Athletics leadership team! In September, Levi Vega began serving as the acting athletics director and Aaron Vaughn as the acting assistant director. Together, they will support WVC students, coaching staff, and partnerships on campus and in our community.

As familiar faces to WVC students, faculty, staff, and community members, Levi and Aaron are excited to build a strong foundation for the athletics department and help student athletes succeed on the field and in the classroom.

“I’m excited for our new and returning coaches to grow in their roles, gain confidence, and be part of ourPortrait of Levi Vega student athletes' journey in growing within their teams and academically,” Levi shared. “Starting at WVC as a recruiter and serving as the former director of the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) has helped me understand what we need to be successful.... We want to make sure everything is good on the financial side, on the compliance side, on the academic side.”

Aaron also brings years of experience and enthusiasm to his new role, sharing, “This is an exciting time to rejuvenate our athletics program and bring in new energy.” He has led the Knights baseball team as head coach since 2021 and serves as the manager of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) on the Wenatchee campus. “This will be my fifth year coaching at WVC, and we’re committed to making sure our students and coaches have the support and mentorship they need to lead.”

Portrait of Aaron VaughnAaron's time as a coach has helped him to see “what’s worked and what hasn’t worked. I think it’s something that I’m excited to be able to bring to show, hey, here’s something we can do that I’ve seen be successful.” He said that includes supporting the Knights student athletes during the transition in leadership, providing them with a quality athletic and academic experience, and guaranteeing that all Knights games run smoothly. But it also means mentoring coaches and ensuring that they have the knowledge they need to support their athletes.

To help welcome both new and returning Knights athletes to WVC, Levi and Aaron developed a Knights Day orientation, where students learned about support services available to them and engaged in activities to help them get to know one another, including “people bingo” and a dodgeball game.

The leadership team and coaching staff also hope that the community will continue to support Knights Athletics. “Honestly, I would say for the community, just don't give up,” Aaron said. He pointed out that WVC Athletics has experienced some hurdles but always found a way to overcome them. “A lot of that was through community leaders stepping up and helping out, people donating to programs, people helping coaches find jobs or giving them support.”

Levi added that the community can best show their support by attending Knights games and visiting the athletics facilities. “We want to make sure they get to see it, get to see that we’re doing our best,” he said. “Ultimately, we are here for our students, and that is our goal...supporting the student through all their experience[s] here.” That, Levi said, would be a very good reason to support Knights Athletics.
