Wenatchee Valley College alum Selina Longoria invites the community to the grand opening
of Moon Bean Cafe in East Wenatchee on Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their
grand opening celebration will feature coffee, conversation, and door prizes.
Born and raised in the Wenatchee Valley, Selina began playing soccer at Quincy High School and was recruited to play for the women’s soccer team at Wenatchee Valley College in 2007. She excelled on the field and in the classroom as a health science student and was recruited by the University of Providence to continue playing soccer in 2009.
Selina expressed gratitude to the former women’s soccer coach John Wright and for her time at Wenatchee Valley College. “It was a great experience, not only as an athlete but as a student. John was very much a coach that ingrained in us that we were student athletes and being a student came first. We had team study groups and built strong connections with each other.”
After studying in Montana, Selina knew she wanted to return to North Central Washington to live closer to family. “That’s when I found Starbucks. I worked at Starbucks for twelve years and fell in love with the connection and the culture that coffee creates,” she said. “I was able to really grow and develop as an individual there
and learn a bunch of skills that eventually helped me to feel confident enough to open my own cafe.”
As a student athlete, Selina recounted her favorite memories connecting with the other players. “What comes to mind first is conditioning, practicing, going over to Jeepers Bagels for bagel sandwiches, volunteering, and bonding during bus rides.”
The biggest skill she learned from her time at Wenatchee Valley College was how to be a team player on the field and in the classroom. As the co-owner of Moon Bean Cafe, Selina hopes current students will visit the coffee shop to study and connect with our community.
Selina reflected on the advice she would give her younger self and students today: “Be true to yourself and who you are as a person. There are so many life experiences that have made me who I am, and we all have those stories within us. Stay true to who you are, your beliefs, and don’t be afraid to experience something new. We surprise ourselves the most when we let ourselves venture out of our comfort zone.”
Moon Bean Cafe is located at 101 Eastmont Avenue in East Wenatchee and is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
